I was biding for this flight, because there is a long rest and I always ask for new destinations. I still have few cities I really want to visit and I can’t get them… Hangzhou was easy to get, because not everyone wants to fly to China)
I like China. It has interesting culture, beautiful houses, magnificent Great wall, but food is another story. Because of the food I don’t want to fly there anymore, unless I take my own food with me.
I had 2 days in Hangzhou. The hotel is very nice – a large room and bathroom, the bed is comfortable – that’s all I need. There is a shopping mall near the hotel. We agreed to meet in the morning at 11 a.m. and go for a walk by the lake. There is a beautiful large lake, where everyone goes. We went by subway, but first we decided to eat something. On our way we saw some Chinese restaurant.
But the menu was only in Chinese and waiters did not speak English, so we went to another restaurant. At least the menu was translated into English. Fortunately there was one waitress who spoke English and she helped us to choose. But the food there is only Chinese in this restaurant. We ordered pork in some sauce, some soup where you can find everything, some bacon with vegetables that were unknown to me and rice.
From all these dishes I could eat only rice. I did not even want to try this soup. I took out only 1 shrimp from it. For this breakfast, because it was breakfast for me, we paid 100 yuan (about $ 14).
In general, food is cheap in China, but I can not eat it. I had sushi for dinner and I paid only 42 yuan ($ 6). But I can not say that they were extremely tasty. Sushi in China are not the same as in Ukraine. I love Ukrainian sushi. Philadelphia are my favorite ones, plus we can add cucumber, avocado, cheese… But it’s just rice, fish on top and that’s it in Chinese or Japanese sushi. But cheap. For pasta I paid 90 yuan ($ 13) at the hotel. I know for sure that food in hotels is expensive, but I’m so lazy after a long flight to go somewhere in search of food)) it is easier to book a room service.
This lake is really beautiful and large and mountains can be seen on the horizon, they make it even more beautiful. This is one of the most popular destinations for both locals and tourists. But nobody is swimming there, it’s a bit dirty. You can take a boat or a large ship ride there made in Chinese style. We just walked by the lake. The Chinese people are dancing at every corner. So funny to watch. Elderly people are dancing in the park. It’s so cool at the same time. For them it is normal. Our grandmothers grow potatoes in Ukraine, and their grandmothers are dancing… Or maybe some of them are growing rice))
Later on we went to Leifeng Pagoda. It was rebuilt in 2002 and nonetheless is considered one of the most popular tourist places in the city. It received its name from the peak of Leifen (Sunset Hill) where it was built. Historically, the pagoda was built in 975 AD. This is how the ruler celebrated his son’s birthday – decided to built a pagoda as a present for his wife. The entrance is 40 yuan ($ 5).
The view is amazing there. But we’ve only been on the ground floor. You can take the elevator to the 5th floor, but we did not want to queue in line. There are many interesting expositions made of wood inside. You should go there because of the beautiful view on the lake and the city.
Longjing Tea Village
Also there is a tea plantation nearby. There are 9 tea plantations in total. And this tea is called “West Lake Longjing” and is one of the ten best tea in China. But I did not even plan to go there. I had to buy tea at least, which I did not do. It must be interesting there.
I was planning to go for shopping the next day. But as I could not sleep at night, I slept the whole day long. And I was well rested before the flight. The flight, by the way, is 9 hours long.
So, I have already visited Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guangzhou (better known to Europeans as Canton, Chinese will not understand this name) and Hangzhou in China.
By the way, Hangzhou was recognized as “the happiest city in China” for 12 years. Maybe because everyone is dancing there in the parks and near the lake. Although I saw them dancing in Beijing too. ))
