Interesting places you must visit in Doha, Qatar

Doha, a beautiful city in the middle of a desert

Will start my story with a city, where I live at the moment. I arrived to Doha in July 2017 with 3 beautiful Ukrainian girls. I am so blessed to have them by my side. We are friends for more than a year now and we always meet and share our stories from our life here and abroad. I love them, but will not write their names here. Actually, it would be very hard for me to live abroad alone as I never left Ukraine for more than 2-3 weeks on vacations. But with them it wasn’t that hard at the beginning. Now I used to it, but still sometimes I miss my home, anyways, I travel to Ukraine every few months, so everything is OK.

4 of us were discovering Doha as much as we could during our first days in Qatar. I remember we landed at 5 am into Doha and it was already so hot outside. It was July, and the temperature during summer can be +45 degrees Celsius (even more). Last summer was hotter than this year, so maybe we were going out when it was +40 C.  Still it’s very hot outside and it’s already October. The best time to come to Doha is the end of October till April. You will not experience this extreme heat and during summertime you will not find anyone on the streets, everyone is just in a car going to work or to a mall where you have air conditioner. Even in a bus there is air conditioner, which you will not find in Ukraine. I wonder how people lived here 100 years ago without a/c. Or when was a/c founded? It is October now and the temperature is becoming perfect outside.

Will show you few places, I have visited in Doha and which are worth seeing while travelling to Qatar.

Souq Waqif

First thing we saw was this beautiful Souq, which is very popular for tourists and for locals as well. You can find many restaurants and cafes there, also souvenir shops, you can buy everything you need, like sweets, spices, traditional clothes, perfumes. It is renovated to a traditional Qatari style. I really like to go there and if we are not going to a new place (because there are dozens of interesting places in Doha), we always meet at Souq Waqif with my friends. There is a great Turkish café, where I love to eat kunefe and first time I tried it here. This place is called Al Aker Sweets, if you want to try kunefe or baklava, go to this place.

The Corniche

Walking along Corniche and admiring the view on Doha skyscrapers with a cup of coffee or a fresh juice is what I like the most. It’s 7 km long, so you can walk for a long time or some people are running there (I am running only in a gym, but not so often as I would like to). It is always a bit cool there. We were just walking, walking, walking and enjoying the view. If you are in Doha for the first time, you definitely have to go there and take a nice picture. It’s not far from Souq Waqif, just cross the road and enjoy the view.

Museum of Islamic art (MIA)

It is located at the end of Corniche. There you can find different collection of metal and wood work, jewelry, ceramics dating from 7th century. Entrance is free, just you need to cover your knees. It means you need to wear proper clothes which are not too short. Few days ago I went there for the second time just to take nice pictures in beautiful arches which are inside the museum.

MIA Park

Next to the museum there is a beautiful park, which is not really a park according to my understanding of parks. Because there are not that many trees, but it’s green and you can see tall palm trees there along the park. In MIA park you can just relax, sit on a grass, look at beautiful skyscrapers, which are really nicely illuminating during nighttime, drink coffee in a coffee shop and just relax your mind.

The Pearl

This place is just luxury. You can find different expensive yachts parked there, nice restaurants and cafes, which are not that cheap. Actually it’s not cheap to eat in any restaurant in Doha. You will pay up to 100 rials ($25 approximately) for one course. But Pearl is definitely the most beautiful place to eat and walk in Doha. I was there only few times, but I always enjoy going there.

Aspire Zone

This is also called Doha Sports City. A big sports complex is located there, as well as a new Stadium, built for FIFA 2022 (for 60,000 people). Also there is a swimming pool and a small lake in the middle of the park. Many families with their children chill there, have picnic, relax, enjoy warm or hot weather)) Mostly this place is for walking or running, or playing any other sport. Next to Aspire Zone there is a Villaggio Mall – the most popular Mall in Doha.

Villaggio Mall

It is not only good for shopping, it is also a great place to eat and it is really beautiful inside. It looks like Venice with a canal and gondolas, you can have a gondola ride inside a mall. It should be fun, but I haven’t tried. My favorite sport is ice skating and there is a skating rink (the price is 40 rials or $10). Also different fancy shops from Gucci to Dolce & Gabbana, as well as different make up, clothing shops. Everything you need, you can buy in Villaggio.
